Pillion riding or Motorbike riding, as we all know, is both fun and convenience; actually hard to tell which one is more of. Karachi city, being the most urban of the cities of Pakistan, has a larger number of bike riders too, a survey tells the number of bikes has crossed 10 million, yet increasing every passing day.
Another survey regarding Road Traffic Accidents reveals that in about 70% of the total monthly road accidents reported and rushed to hospital, the victim is a bike rider. The reasons investigated behind vary but the fact remains.
Looking at this, for the very first time, Atlas Honda Limited, came up with this unique idea of initiating a Safe Bike Riding Training Program for bike riders, later on Atlas Honda Limited Company included this activity in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) too.
To promote the Atlas Honda Company’s CSR vision, S.O.R.R.Y from the House of Thirteen Dimensions, an institution based in Karachi, working for Road Safety at large, has joined hands with AHL CSR Team. Therefore in this regard, in the month of August 2017, there was a week-long activity held in the city of Karachi.
In this sphere, two seminars were held on organizational level. Both the organizations are of huge scale, functioning across the country and abroad too, with approximately more than 2000 people as staff. The half-day seminar sessions were attended by staff, those who use motorbikes for daily commuting; and their superiors. This included departmental heads of Human Resources and Health, Safety, Environment mainly.
Asif Khwaja (SMILE & Rescue 1122 fame) specially travelled from Lahore for these events. The audiences were too receptive and participative asking questions regarding bike care too along with riding safety. Topics covered included Pakistan -its accident picture & Way forward, Personal safety, Use of helmet, Bike maintenance, Correct riding posture, and more.
